Temperatures have reached record numbers across the nation, and the mountain communities have been affected, too. Just like any human being, pets require plenty of fresh water and shade during the heat of the day. Animals wear sweaters year-round and are equally prone to heat exhaustion
and/or heatstroke – which may be fatal!
Some shaggier canines enjoy a “summer buzz cut” that serves to minimize their natural insulation. When making an appointment with your preferred groomer, be sure to ask that they leave sufficient length – especially along the back – to avoid sunburn.
Keeping toes and legs trimmed also helps prevent foxtails from attaching and injuring your pet. Shorter fur makes it easier to discover any invading foxtails, stickers, or other burrs so that they may be removed before causing any damage.
