Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital is seeking a compassionate and motivated Associate Veterinarian to join our well-established general practice in the beautiful mountain community of Lebec, California.

About the Role

As an Associate Veterinarian, you’ll join a collaborative and capable medical team committed to delivering traditional, full-spectrum veterinary care. This role is ideal for a well-rounded clinician who values quality medicine and long-term client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exams and diagnostics and develop treatment plans
  • Conduct routine surgeries, dental procedures, and anesthesia management
  • Build trust with clients through clear, empathetic communication
  • Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure efficient, effective care
  • Keep thorough, up-to-date medical records
  • Participate in case discussions, CE, and internal development opportunities
  • Soft tissue surgery and basic dentistry

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Licensed (or eligible) to practice in the state of California
  • Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered, relationship-based veterinary care
  • Experience in general practice preferred, but mentorship available
  • Leadership skills

Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital is a rapidly growing privately owned veterinary hospital in Lebec, CA and we have an opening for a Vet Assistant to add to our dedicated team of care professionals! In this position you will spend the majority of your time assisting the Technicians and Veterinarians with the care and treatment of the pets who depend on us.

Primary Responsibilities

Training is available for candidates who possess exemplary communication skills and are passionate about learning to help care for pets! 

Veterinary Assistants play a vital role in supporting the Veterinarians and Technicians who provide excellent patient care. After your training is complete, your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Using best practices to safely restrain pets during exams and treatment.
  • Making sure the pets staying in the cages and kennels have clean and comfortable accommodations.
  • Preparing medications (in-hospital use as well as prescriptions) with the highest accuracy.
  • Updating patient records and notes regarding care in their paper and electronic files.
  • Assisting with curbside service by escorting pets into and out of the practice.
  • Critical thinking, common sense, basic math, follow 
  • through and accountability a must.
  • Communicating with clients about their pet’s visit and care.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience providing top-notch customer service both in person and over the phone is strongly preferred
  • Truly superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt your style to meet the needs of the person you are communicating with.
  • Be able to lift, pull, twist, turn, push, carry, kneel and stand for extended hours, all the while soothing those patients you are handling.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and meet multiple requests at one time and change priorities as circumstances indicate.
  • Must be tech savvy with the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Keep all equipment in top-running performance.
  • Keep hospital facilities and grounds clean, sanitary and presentable at all times.

Hours & Availability

Candidates available full time hours per an alternative work-week schedule are invited to apply! Your availability must align with our current working hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday 3-day schedule with 12-hour shifts and just one Saturday a month. 
  • We eventually plan to go back to our regular 4-day schedule with 10-hour shifts.
  • Rotating weekend availability is required

About Us

Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital is a privately owned, community-focused small animal hospital serving our mountain region for 36 years. We pride ourselves on excellent medicine, deep client relationships, and a genuinely warm, family-oriented culture. Our clients trust us because we treat their pets as if they were our own.

We currently operate three 12-hour days (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) plus one Saturday per month. With proper leadership and staffing, our goal is to return to our original four-day-per-week schedule (four 10-hour days).

We utilize a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) for payroll review, HR guidance, and compliance support—providing structure and resources to streamline your leadership role.

The Opportunity

This is a transformational leadership role designed for an experienced veterinary practice manager who is ready to elevate a hospital, modernize systems, and build sustainable growth. Our owner-DVM has run the practice singlehandedly for 36 years and is ready to step back from operational duties to focus on medicine, mentorship, and the long-term vision. You will play a pivotal role in helping her transition successfully by implementing structure, accountability, and clear systems that empower the entire team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day practice operations
  • Manage HR, scheduling, hiring, training, and conflict resolution
  • Oversee financial performance, KPIs, revenue metrics, and operational efficiency
  • Manage inventory, ordering, vendor negotiations, and cost control
  • Build and launch monthly recurring revenue programs including wellness plans, dental plans, senior care plans, and chronic disease programs
  • Lead community outreach programs: education, events, social media engagement, prevention campaigns
  • Develop SOPs, workflows, and communication systems
  • Strengthen team culture, accountability, and client communication
  • Collaborate with our PEO to streamline compliance and HR processes
  • Help guide a long-time owner in transitioning from hands-on operations to visionary leadership

Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced managing a multi-doctor veterinary or medical practice
  • Highly skilled in operations, HR, financial oversight, and leadership
  • Excellent communicator with high emotional intelligence
  • Enjoys coaching teams, resolving conflict, and building culture
  • Comfortable guiding a long-term owner through delegation and change
  • Excited about wellness plans and other subscription-based MRR models
  • Passionate about community outreach in a rural environment
  • Thrives with autonomy and enjoys building systems from scratch

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $90,000–$110,000 (DOE)
  • Quarterly performance bonuses
  • Profit-sharing or future equity potential for the right candidate
  • Relocation support: $7,500–$10,000 (paid 50% at start, 50% at 90 days)
